The Urgent Need: Building Care for South Los Angeles

South LA’s First Urgent Care

In fall 2025, UMMA Health will bring services severely lacking within the Medi-Cal community in South Los Angeles – the first neighborhood Urgent Care.

Our new Figueroa Care Center will launch in two phases. The first phase occurs this year with operating a 40-hour/week Urgent Care for Medi-Cal patients. This will be followed by expanding our hours to include comprehensive primary medical and behavioral health care for all.

Closing the Urgent Care Gap

Urgent Care Service Will Include:

  • Acute illness evaluation (colds, flu, fevers, ear infections, UTIs etc.)
  • Acute injury/pain evaluation (sprains, cuts, burns, etc.)
  • Back & Joint Pain
  • Skin Infections and Allergic Reactions
  • Animal Bites
  • Mild Asthma & COPD Flare-ups
  • Mild stomach pain, nausea & vomiting
  • On-site testing (strep, flu, STI, pregnancy, etc.)
  • X-rays and imaging

No Urgent Care for Medi-Cal Patients

Over 250,000 Medi-Cal patients in South Los Angeles lack access to a neighborhood urgent care facility. This leaves residents without affordable, local options for immediate medical needs, creating a significant healthcare gap in the community.

ER Overload

Without an urgent care facility, South LA residents are forced to seek care at overcrowded emergency rooms at California Hospital and MLK Jr. Community Hospital or travel to nearby cities that primarily offer for-profit urgent care centers. This lack of accessible, affordable options puts financial and operational strain on hospitals while limiting timely care for patients.

By the Numbers

Our new urgent care center will:

Location Address:  10421 S. Figueroa St., Los Angeles, CA 90044

"Access to timely medical care can mean the difference between a minor health concern and a life-threatening emergency. In our community, too many families face barriers to urgent care, leading to unnecessary emergency room visits or delayed treatment. By bringing the first urgent care center to South Los Angeles, UMMA is ensuring that everyone—regardless of income or insurance status—has a place to turn for immediate, high-quality care."
